Village Leaders are passionately devoted to being the support system for counselors. Each village of 5 cabins has its own Village Leader, and you are dedicated to overseeing and supporting the experience of 25 campers & 9 counselors in your Village.
During two-week sessions, you will work with the Program Directors and the Masters of Fun and Games to cultivate magical worlds within the weekend programming. Apply if you are committed to upholding Augusta’s leadership standards, by supporting and challenging counselors to grow, while acting as a beacon of empathy and care within the camp community!
A day in the life of a Village Leader at Augusta typically includes:
-Teaching 1-2 activity blocks per day
-Organizing cabin activities within village and camp-wide
-Collaborating with a team of 5-6 other VLs
-Meeting with village counselors at the start of each session and throughout the week
-Overseeing counselor creation of Parent Letters
-Preparing camper and cabin documents for each session, serving as a village resource throughout the summer.
-Communicating with parents about successes, difficulties, supportive strategies, and gratitudes while their campers are at Augusta
-Coaching and mentoring staff with an eye towards youth development and personal growth.
-Supporting the general flow of the camp day, supporting the community wherever needed

-300+ Hours of Experiential Training: Pre-arrival preparation and 3.5 weeks of on-site training, including:
-75+ hours of experiential learning in psychology-based philosophies and approaches
-45+ hours learning activities within our 150+ clinic offerings
-180+ hours of learning camp by doing camp
-9 Weeks of Summer Practicing: Being responsible for cabins of 5 campers at a time, and applying all the skills above to camp activities and discussions.
-A Skilled & Dedicated Scaffolder: With no more than a 1:8 ratio, this person emphasizes your growth and works with you to develop your skills working with kids

Qualifications:
-At least 19 years old by 6/1/25
-Available during our summer dates May 13th - August 9th.
-Love working with and teaching children in a safe, fun, and intentional manner.
And MUST have one of the following:
-At least one summer of experience at a residential summer camp
-Over 100 hours of direct mentorship work with youth
-A major or background directly related to working with youth, with intention to work with youth in your future career
Required Skills:
-Exceptional emotional intelligence, along with an eagerness to support emotional growth in campers and staff
-High level of written and verbal communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, and discretion in handling emotionally sensitive concerns
-Ability to build community and camaraderie defined by love, mutual respect, dedication to growth, and playful interactions
-Strong communication and ability to prioritize
Preferred Skills:
-Desire to supervise and coach counseling staff
-A history of ‘meaningful’ work and a variety of experiences with youth
-A plethora of interesting hobbies, passions, and life experiences that you’re excited to share with us
