Overview

Do you love working with kids and living in nature? Come to camp this summer at Songadeewin on Lake Dunmore to lead activities, sports, rock climbing, canoeing, drama, games, and arts for girls ages 8 to 16 on our 60 acre campus nestled between the lake and Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest. Live and work with staff and campers from all over the world. Leadership and/or experience in backcountry settings preferred as camp counselors also lead or assist on two small group wilderness canoeing (flatwater & white water) or hiking trips each summer. Salary starts at $3,925 for current college students.  Room and board included. Dates for this position are from June 4 – August 16, 2025 and include WFA training, CPR, and optional lifeguard training.

Experience working with kids

Required Skills:

Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds or canoe along uneven terrain for long distances
Ability to maintain a high level of energy for extended periods of time.
Summer camp schedule requires roughly 6 days on/1 day off per week at camp. No time off while off campus leading Wilderness trips.
Must be able to spend 1 - 2 weeks on trip, navigating difficult terrain, and inclement weather conditions

Preferred Skills:

Wilderness canoe tripping or hiking/backpacking experience
Experience leading small groups in a backcountry setting
Menu planning & outdoor cooking experience
Comfortable working with groups of young people in a wilderness setting
Ability to facilitate positive group dynamic and conduct conflict resolution
Advanced technical skill sets in wilderness canoe travel
Strong attention to wilderness risk management practices

Songadeewin is a summer camp for girls with a focus on wilderness canoe tripping, one of the Keewaydin Camps. The Keewaydin Foundation operates single-gender summer camps whose mission is to help children grow and flourish by living in community, learning to be independent and interdependent, and living simply. We foster kindness, courage, honesty, resilience and leadership and we strive to create a joyful community based on inclusivity, shared values, and respect.
