About Outer Range Outdoor Education
Outer Range, Montrose County School District’s outdoor learning center, provides immersive, relevant, student driven, and community-focused outdoor programs and expeditions. With mountains, canyons, and rivers in all directions, Montrose has a thriving and growing outdoor industry and multiple outdoor options; a whitewater sports park, excellent year-round trail systems, a national park, and multiple state parks nearby and easy & quick access to ski and mountain bike destinations. Outer Range has 4 guiding principles: build in partnership, move beyond the ordinary, embrace the unknown, and unravel & transform; all infused into our programming to help students grow along a continuum that challenges perceived risk, supports skill development, and grows confidence. Outer Range is building alternative pathways to education for pre-K-12th grade, emphasizing integrated & relevant projects, a supportive network for growth and development, and preparation to enter outdoor careers.
