Overview

This position is full-time, year-round in Denali National Park, Alaska.

The Education Manager is responsible for oversight and management of all aspects of Alaska Geographic’s educational programming and partnership operations at the Murie Science and Learning Center (MSLC) in Denali National Park and Preserve. This complex position entails overseeing a diverse array of fee-based and free educational programs, co-managing the MSLC facility and related field camps, providing business support for multiple areas of the National Park Service, and ensuring that Alaska Geographic provides safe and high-quality services and strong partnership support to Denali National Park and Preserve. The Education Manager uses flexibility and creativity to continually adapt how Alaska Geographic can remain invaluable to the National Park Service’s (NPS) evolving needs.

The core objective of the Education Manager is to run a revenue-positive operation that provides science and stewardship learning opportunities in Denali National Park and Preserve. The principal duties include program development, oversight and evaluation, facility management, risk management, financial management, partnership relations, and staff supervision. All programs are approved by and managed in close collaboration with National Park Service staff. The Education Manager reports to Alaska Geographic’s Chief Operating Officer.

Qualifications:

-Minimum of five years experience in science-based education, interpretation, educational program delivery, and program management.
-Experience managing a budget of at least $500,000. Significant experience working in partnerships with non-profit organizations, public agencies, for-profit businesses, and other partners.

Preferred Skills:

- Denali or Alaska living and working experience preferred.
- Current Wilderness First Responder certification or ability to obtain certification before or soon after beginning the position.
- Position subject to a background investigation.
- Valid driver's license.
- United States citizenship.
