Position Purpose

A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides relief to survivors of natural disasters. The position is full-time and is responsible for developing Chainsaw Operations skills according to the California Wildfire Chainsaw Training Program.

Essential Functions

Responsible for working towards developing professionally, following the Chainsaw Training Taskbook (project schedule based on progress, targets and deliverables).
Adheres to an agreed set of safety and quality standards and ensures these standards are maintained.
Supports the Logistics Coordinator and WMSS with Salesforce tracking and completing site diary and site logs.
Supports the mitigation team in planning the workflow on chainsaw sites.
Together with the WMSS holds daily morning meetings on-site to explain and divide the work for a day.
Oversee certain tasks on sites. Lead and instruct the work of individual teams of volunteers
Holds bi-weekly skill task book check-ins with PC and WMSS to accurately track progress.
Supports the WMSS to implement volunteer training and holds weekly check-ins with volunteer trainees
Timeframe to train: Plan to stay on program until the end of the program, minimum 3 months.
Will need to demonstrate leadership and consistently safe PPE practices
Potentially train in other wildfire mitigation scopes including but not limited to; Home Hardening, invasive species removal, erosion control, and others.
To be considered for this position you must be fully vaccinated. Subject to applicable guidance, the term fully vaccinated currently refers to when an individual has received either a single-shot vaccine or both doses of a two-shot vaccine, and two weeks have elapsed since the final dose.

Qualifications:

Education High School Diploma or equivalent.

Related Experience Experience in leading teams of volunteers in post-disaster environments. Previous All Hands and Hearts, AmeriCorps, or Peace Corps experience preferred.

Work Environment/Conditions Communal living environment; high-stress situations.

Required Skills:

Special Competencies/Certifications Good written and oral communication skills and confident working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment.
