A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides relief to survivors of natural disasters. The position is full-time and is responsible for the supervision, training, and overall site management of chainsaw operation sites.

Reports to: Wildfire Mitigation Project Coordinator
Roles reporting to position: Volunteers/Chainsaw Trainees
Approximate number of reports: 2-5
Lead teams of staff and volunteers in urban felling, constructing fuel breaks, and chainsaw operations after natural disasters, and offer skilled troubleshooting and technical advice on worksites
Teach unskilled volunteers disaster chainsaw operations such as cutting in an urban environment, routine chainsaw maintenance, ropework, site typing, and assessing chainsaw sites
Train unskilled volunteers on how to safely use chainsaws and informing on the importance of PPE
Ensure compliance with work scope and quality standards
Communicate tasks and expectations clearly to team members, providing effective technical training and constructive feedback when necessary to ensure compliance with project safety and quality standards
Maintain records of work completed including tracking material usage, volunteer hours, and scopes performed
Positively represent the organization on base and within the community
Document, record, and report any incidents or near misses
Supervise and lead teams in different wildfire mitigation projects that include but not limited to tree planting, brush clearing, hazard tree felling, fuel break construction, burn pile construction, and defensible space construction
Lead teams in other work scopes as needed
To be considered for this position you must be fully vaccinated. Subject to applicable guidance, the term fully vaccinated currently refers to when an individual has received either a single-shot vaccine or both doses of a two-shot vaccine, and two weeks have elapsed since the final dose.

Education High School Diploma or equivalent.
Related Experience Experience in chainsaw operations (wilderness or urban.) Experience in leading teams of volunteers in post-disaster environments. Previous All Hands and Hearts, AmeriCorps, or Peace Corps experience preferred.
Work Environment/Conditions Communal living environment; high-stress situations.
Special Competencies/Certifications Good written and oral communication skills and confident working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment. S-212 certification, red-card, or equivalent certification would be preferred. Advance first aid training is preferred
