Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking TWO Members to work directly with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area staff and assist with maintaining historic trails and structures in front and backcountry settings.
These opportunities are intended for enthusiastic individuals with background in construction who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of historic preservation.

Location: Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Calabasas, California
Hidden in plain sight from Los Angeles, the Santa Monica Mountains offer easy access to surprisingly wild places. Experience the famous beaches of Malibu or explore more than 500 miles of trails. The park abounds with historical and cultural sites, from old movie ranches to Native American centers.

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $545/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: ACE Members will be accommodated in park housing at a cost of approximately $10-$15 per night for the duration of the program.
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 675-hour AmeriCorps Education Award ($2,360) upon successful completion of service hours. Additional enrollment and volunteer service is required.
Position Description: ACE members will assist park maintenance or preservation staff with building maintenance projects to preserve historic sites in the national park. These projects include general building maintenance including historic ranch structures; building stabilization; providing utility services; equipment maintenance. Projects may require carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical engineering, landscape and orchard maintenance. Training and professional guidance will be provided.
