The Program Director is integral to AmeriCorps St. Louis’ goal of administering diverse conservation projects, as well as providing technical and fundamental training, project coordination, logistical support, and leadership to ensure a positive and meaningful experience for AmeriCorps Members. The Program Director must have the ability to supervise and assist in personnel management of the Leadership Team – Field Coordinator, Field Supervisor, Stewardship Coordinator and Team Leads.
Most of the Program Director’s time will be focused on ensuring that program crews operate safely, efficiently, and effectively, with the greatest impacts for participants and partners. The position is based out of St. Louis with travel across the state and region. Both office and field operations are required by this position and a flexible schedule is a necessity.

• Identify and develop annual objectives to sustain and enhance the outcomes of the ACSTL mission and Strategic Plan.
• Collaborate with Leadership Team to develop strategy for programmatic sustainability.
• Demonstrate and lead the development and implementation of high-quality programming to achieve positive Member experiences and exceptional project accomplishments.
• Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and evaluation.
• Provide administrative, logistical, and counseling support to Leadership Team.

Project and Program Development
• Plan and oversee the implementation of all ACSTL crew projects and programming.
• Work with Leadership Team and Program Staff to coordinate comprehensive project calendar.
• Implement, maintain, and refine programmatic policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain positive partnerships with community and project partners.
• Direct the execution of pre-site visits, project specification, reporting, partner evaluations, and understand the required performance measures for all agreements.
• Manage budget, purchasing, fleet, and equipment needs for crews to be successful.
• Provide technical and programmatic assistance, guidance, and support to crews.
• Model risk management practices and develop further safety measures for Members in the field.

Development & Training
• Assist the program staff to develop and implement technical and fundamental training.
• Provide mentorship and supervision to Team Leads throughout the program year.
• Assist Members with resources and support in handling difficult or complex problems.
• Supervise Members to ensure adherence to quality standards, policies and procedures, and provide timely and relevant coaching as needed.
• Support updates and improvement of applicable training manuals, educational materials, policies and procedures and other resources in collaboration with ACSTL staff.

Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in outdoor development or conservation field. Experience with chain sawing with ability to attain B or C Faller certifications. Must successfully pass annual Work Capacity Test. Experience with prescribed fire and ability to attain NWCG Wildland FFT1 Certification. Technical conservation experience. Demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating trainings. Valid driver’s license and insurance. Must pass background check.

Preferred Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent work experience in relevant field. Relevant medical certification (WFR, WEMT, EMT). Working knowledge of natural resource project management such as trail construction, watershed restoration, forest/prairie management, and wildlife habitat improvement.
