PROGRAM SUMMARY:
Founded in 1994, AmeriCorps St. Louis (ACSTL) is a non-profit organization, engaging AmeriCorps National Service Volunteers in community service initiatives addressing critical unmet needs in the areas of Disaster Response, Environmental Stewardship, & Wildland Firefighting. ACSTL focuses on the training and development of the next generation of public service leaders while building the capacity of partner agencies to achieve impactful community results.

AmeriCorps Members serve within a 42-Member Corps for 11-month terms, earning a monthly living stipend and an AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of their term. Through training and partnerships with conservation agencies, Members gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects. More importantly, Members gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their communities, and recognize that they can make a positive difference.

The AmeriCorps St. Louis Member year operates from September through August. ACSTL operates as many as 8 crews at a time primarily throughout Missouri, completing projects in partnership with non-profit, local, state, and federal agencies. Staff focus on program development, financial management, and Member development. ACSTL has a nine-member Board of Directors and a dedicated staff of five full-time employees.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Manager will be responsible for all environmental stewardship-based programming. This position will lead ACSTL’s goal of administering diverse environmental stewardship projects, as well as providing technical and fundamental training, project coordination, logistical support, and leadership to ensure a positive and meaningful experience for Members. The Program Manager must have the ability to supervise and assist in personnel management of the Environmental Stewardship Leadership Team – Field Coordinator, Field Specialist, Stewardship Coordinator and Team Leads.

The Program Manager’s time will be split between the office and the field, focused on ensuring that program partnerships are grown and sustained, projects are developed and implementation is successful, crews are properly trained, Members are operating safely and effectively, and positive experiences and meaningful opportunities are developed. The position is based out of St. Louis with intermittent travel.

Qualifications:

•Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in outdoor development or conservation field.
•Working knowledge of natural resource project management such as trail construction, watershed restoration, forest/prairie management, and wildlife habitat improvement.
•Familiarity with AmeriCorps and local, state, and federal natural resource agencies.
•Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
•Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
•Background check

Preferred Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent work experience in relevant field. Demonstrated experience with project management. Technical conservation experience including chainsaws and/or crosscut saws; trail; fence and bridge construction; herbicide application; small engine repair, and hand tool maintenance. Experience with chain sawing with ability to attain Federal B or C Faller certifications. Meet minimum physical requirements and successfully pass annual Work Capacity Test. Experience with wildland fire.
