Overview

The Director of Sailing (DOS) will oversee the Sailing Operations of the AWA. There are three branches that comprise AWA’s sailing operations: High school Sailing Team, Summer Learn to Sail programs and Community Sailing Programs. This unique position will ask the DOS to plan, design and implement sailing programs. The DOS will act as Head Coach for the Anacortes High school Sailing Team. They will manage the summer Learn to Sail Programs and contribute to the growth of the Community Sailing Programs.

The DOS will report directly to the Director of Community Boating. Both will work together to oversee program function, risk management, asset maintenance, and management of staff and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities:

Ensure the proper function and oversee all sailing programs, which include the High school Sailing Team and Learn to Sail Program.

Act as Head Coach for the Fall and Spring High school Sailing Team.

Organize, plan and execute summer programs, which includes staffing, scheduling and instructing.

Ensure that all AWA sailing assets and facilities are in good working order and well maintained.

Represent the AWA well with a professional appearance and demeanor.

Other responsibilities as needed to help run a successful sailing organization.

Qualifications:

US Sailing Level 1 Certification
Basic First Aid and CPR certification
WA State Boaters Card
Dinghy Sailing Experience and Coaching
Racing Experience and Coaching
Small powerboat handling experience
Ability to tow and secure trailer, contents and transport between venues
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, have the stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of four hours, and be able to move your body in small spaces for extended periods of time

AWA is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization based in Anacortes, WA. AWA is a sailing and small boat community organization. Our mission is to enable meaningful interaction with our community's waterfront through the preservation of public access and the development of inclusive programs. We host middle school and highschool sailing teams, public boat rentals, summer sailing classes and keelboat lessons.
