Overview

The Coordinator for Outdoor Programs is primarily responsible for working with the Assistant Director in the overall administration, fiscal management, implementation, and supervision of the Outdoor Programs.

The coordinator focuses on the following program areas: Trips and the Outing Center at the Student Recreation Center.

This position also includes closely collaborating with the other Outdoor Programs Coordinator in the operations of the Indoor Climbing Wall, Teambuilding /Challenge Course, and Bike App.
The Coordinator for Outdoor Programs supervises and provides development opportunities to a team of 30-40 student employees.

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree.
270 total days in the field in a professional and trip-leading capacity, including leading expedition experiences varying from 1 to 8 days in extension. (Documented in a trip log)
One (1) year of practical work experience in an outdoor program in a leadership capacity including training staff.
Technical outdoor competency in at least two of the following skill areas: (a) whitewater (class III-IV) rafting and or kayaking, (b) rock climbing, (c) backpacking, (d) caving

Required Skills:

Valid driver’s license upon the first day of employment with a minimum of two years of driving experience and a clean driving record.
Current Wilderness First Responder certification or ability to obtain that within the first three months of employment.
One (1) year of practical experience in administrative tasks including but not limited to supervising staff, working knowledge of google and/or Microsoft office and budget management.

Preferred Skills:

Masters degree.
Two or more years of full-time professional experience developing Outdoor Recreation/Education programming in a collegiate recreation setting and/or other other Outdoor Recreation/Education based organizations.
Previous experience in equipment rental procedures and adventure-based trip management, preferably in a collegiate setting.
Current AMGA SPI or PCIA BMCI certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.
Current certifications through ACA, AMGA, PCIA, ACCT etc.
