Overview
We are looking for outdoor educators to help us lead backcountry programs and/or day camps. On backcountry programs instructors will lead backpacking, canoeing, rafting, and caving experiences. In addition to the activities, instructors will teach various leadership, communication, and technical skills. Day camps include teaching outdoor activities, games, and short lessons to younger participants (5-8 years old), and/or leading initiatives, lessons, and experiences (e.g. hiking, caving, canoeing, biking, and rafting) to participants ages 9-11. New employees are expected to attend the training trip May 31-June 6.
Qualifications:
Affinity for the outdoors. You must enjoy being outside for extended periods. Our longest program is two weeks in length, during that time instructors will be backpacking and/or camping on the river and will have limited access to frontcountry amenities (i.e. flushing toilets).
A desire to teach. We look for instructors who are excited to teach through experiential education.
A desire to work with children of all ages. Age ranges for our programs range from 5 to 17 years old.
Required Skills:
Wilderness First Aid Certification. This is our minimum first aid requirement for backcountry programs (WFR preferred). Basic First Aid is acceptable for day camps.
