Overview
Join experienced Appalachian Expedition Instructors to co-lead two trips in July: the Mountaineer Backpacking Trip for 10-13 year olds (July 6-10) and the Cheat River Watershed Expedition for 15-17 year olds (July 16-29). Contract dates: July 3-11 and July 13-30, 2023. Pay is commensurate with similar outdoor education programs.
Qualifications:
Wilderness First Responder (preferred) or Wilderness First Aid Certification.
Required Skills:
Experience teaching, especially in the outdoors. Competencies and interest in the following areas: Risk Management, Experiential education model, camping skills, backpacking skills, canoeing skills, Leadership, communication, and ecological literacy.
About Appalachian Expeditions
Appalachian Expeditions is an outdoor education program based in Davis, West Virginia. We are centrally located between Pittsburgh (3 hours), Baltimore (3.5 hours), and Washington DC (3 hours). Our mission is to educate and inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Central Appalachian region through adventure, community, and sustainable living skills. APEX runs two types of programs: Front country day camps for kids ages 5-8 and 9-13. And backcountry expeditions ranging from three days to two weeks. These trips may include any of the following activities: backpacking, canoeing, rafting, biking (mountain and/or gravel), and caving.
