Job Description:
We are seeking outdoor educators to help us lead backcountry programs and/or day camps. APEX backcountry programs include backpacking, canoeing, rafting, and caving experiences, and instructors will teach natural history, leadership, communication, and technical skills. APEX Day Camps are for 5-11-year-olds, and instructors will lead natural history lessons, games, initiatives, and outdoor activities (e.g. hiking, caving, canoeing, biking, and rafting). New employees are expected to attend the training trip May 30-June 5.
Qualifications:
Outdoor experience (if applying for instructor of backcountry programs). Many of our programs include backpacking and canoeing. Preferred applicants will have experience in both of these activities.
Teaching Experience. We look for instructors who have practice teaching through experiential education, preferably in an outdoor setting.
Experience working with children of all ages. Age ranges for our day camps range from 5 to 11 years old, and backcountry programs range between ages 10 to 17. We
About Appalachian Expeditions
Appalachian Expeditions is an outdoor education program based in Davis, West Virginia. We are centrally located between Pittsburgh (3 hours), Baltimore (3.5 hours), and Washington DC (3 hours). Our mission is to educate and inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Central Appalachian region through adventure, community, and sustainable living skills. APEX runs two types of programs: Front country day camps for kids ages 5-8 and 9-13. And backcountry expeditions ranging from three days to two weeks. These trips may include any of the following activities: backpacking, canoeing, rafting, biking (mountain and/or gravel), and caving.
