Overview
Big Sky Youth Empowerment (BYEP) is a group mentoring and outdoor experiential adventuring program
based in beautiful Bozeman, Montana that serves vulnerable teens in grades 7-12. The teen participants
who voluntarily enroll in our program are taught wellness and social emotional skills in workshops that
are held one night a week and have the opportunity to go out on an adventure on one additional day of
programming per week.
The Program & Operations Coordinator will be a part of and provide general support for the BYEP
Programs Team. They will play an integral part in supporting the Operations Manager and Program
Managers in planning, preparing, and executing social-emotional learning workshops and experiential
outdoor adventures for vulnerable teenagers in the Gallatin Valley of Montana.
The VISTA Associate will have the exciting opportunity to participate in and be a substitute lead of BYEP
workshops, adventures, and tutoring offerings engaging directly with teen participants and volunteer
mentors.
In addition to general program support, the VISTA Associate will be tasked with planning and executing a
community BBQ event for BYEP teens, their families, mentors, board members, and staff at the end of the
summer, developing a gear check-out and maintenance system, and creating community resource binders
to help Program Managers provide wrap-around support of mental health and social services for teen
participants and their families. Additionally, the Summer Associate will support volunteer recruitment
outreach and support BYEP at fundraising events.
The BYEP staff of 12 members is a vibrant, welcoming and fun team that eagerly awaits our two new
AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates. We look forward to sharing in the joy of outdoor, experiential
learning, and building meaningful, growth-oriented relationships with vulnerable teens with you!
Required Skills:
● 18 years or older
● Current driver's license with a clean driving record
● Must be able to pass background check
● Communicate and interact professionally with BYEP staff, community partners, and other key
stakeholders
● Enthusiastic, motivated, and creative with a passion for helping youth
● Attention to detail
● Ability to work independently and follow through
● Must be able to lift 50 lbs
● Knowledge of assessing and maintaining outdoor recreational gear (e.g. skis, snowboards, boots,
bikes)
