Overview
Dearest Village Leader,
Oh, how my heart wishes you were here in the Northern California woodlands already. With your confident demeanor, zany playfulness and inspiring support, you ensure that the counselors in your care bring the magic of Camp Augusta to the excited campers. I long for the moments in which your weekend village programs create new worlds in the wilderness, or when you sit quietly with a homesick child, working through their grief using the many skills you developed during our three-week staff training. I can still hear the echoes of your costumed special wake-ups, and the heartbeat of your love of our consensus based, intentional speech loving, flat-hierarchy community. The position is more challenging than most Assistant Director jobs, but that challenge offers a forge for growth and joy, despite the intensity. I remember the times we chatted about our 1:2 staff/camper ratio, and your love of our 150 unique clinics. I yearn to hear more of your life through our application process: a simple yet profound set of six questions. Our community this summer cannot be complete without you!
We aim to give children the experience of living without many of the modern conveniences that are present in their everyday lives. They get the chance to experience living in an open-air cabin without electricity. We offer a variety of activities that they may not have tried or even seen before: silk batik, shibori, wood burning, poi and staff spinning, high and low ropes, and horseback riding to name a few. There is a great deal of information on our website regarding the philosophy of camp and the activities we offer. If you are interested in Camp Augusta, please look those over carefully.
We are a residential summer camp located in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. We have six sessions during our season, 3 one week and 3 two week, with 90 campers (aged 8-16) each session. Our staff training begins on May 16th, and the main season runs through August 12th. Staff live onsite in cabins, yurts, and even a tree house! We provide fresh meals, organic and locally sourced. All staff must be 19 years or older by May 2023.
Qualifications:
-Staff must be at least 19 years-old by June 2023.
-Availability to work from May 16 to Aug 12, 2023
*Pre and post summer work opportunities (Apr-May & Aug-Sep) are also available.
