Overview

Trip Leaders are the primary caregivers for participants in our Rites of Passage Program. Trip Leaders are responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out curriculum activities to help participants adjust and thrive in the outdoor setting, develop new skills, and guide participants in their personal growth and daily outdoor living skills.
Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of participants in a basic outdoor setting

Apply necessary youth development and wilderness principles in working with participants through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement with, and youth empowerment.
Assure participants are properly supervised at all times.
Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
Adhere to and enforce all camp policies and procedures.
Assess and evaluate the abilities of campers and staff related to the proposed trip.
Implement program activities

Implement ROP curriculum.
Lead and demonstrate basic teambuilding, outdoor living, and survival skills.
Provide direction, supervision, and organization of campers while on a backpacking trip and at the main camp.
Teach the skills necessary for a safe and successful backpacking trip before leaving Camp Dogwood.
Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
Maintain high standards of health and safety
Ensure that participants under supervision manage daily care, including personal health and hygiene needs.
Ensure that participants receive their medications as directed by the Health Care Manager.
Be alert to campers and staff needs, assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with the camp health manager and/or camp director when appropriate.
Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance are adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to the Assistant Director.
Provide first aid and/or CPR if needed.
Demonstrate appropriate attitude and behavior.

Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices, including
sanitation, leave no trace ethics, and sportsmanship.

Maintain clean and sanitary camp property

Ensure that the tents and outdoor areas are maintained to Camp Dogwood standards.
Ensure that food safety standards are maintained at all times.
Other Job Duties

Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested
Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned
Uphold safety of participants and property at all times
Other duties as assigned

Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner
Demonstrate knowledge and skill in outdoor programs

Must be able to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill level

Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years of age
Must have demonstrated experience in leading outdoor or wilderness adventure trips.
Must submit health history record, examination form, and negative Covid-19 test before the first day of work
Must be currently certified or be able to obtain certification in Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder.
Can interact with all age levels.
Ability to work cooperatively.
Comfort living and working in a wilderness environment.

About Camp Dogwood Summer Academy

Camp Dogwood Summer Academy is the flagship program of the AnBryce Foundation. Camp Dogwood was created to provide a unique educational opportunity for youth and young adults who lack the necessary resources to participate in a residential camping and enrichment experience outside their home and social settings. Camp Dogwood Summer Academy makes learning and maturing fun in a peaceful, organic environment dedicated to the academic and character development of youth and young adults from various ethnic and regional backgrounds.
