Overview
Climbing trip leaders will work with two other trip leaders to take groups of 8-12 campers of all ages on climbing day trips 6 days/week. Our typical trips go to Cedar Rock, all areas of Looking Glass rock, and Rumbling Bald. While this is a summer camp position, trip leaders will not live in cabins as counselors but are expected to be engaged in the camp community and assist with special evening activities as needed. This position can be structured as an internship or field experience. The summer season runs 5/30-8/5.
Qualifications:
minimum age 19 but 21+ preferred, capable of leading and instructing groups in a singe pitch trad climbing environment, enthusiasm, working cooperatively with other leaders, patient and able to instruct kids
Required Skills:
Rock site management, 5.9 trad leader
Preferred Skills:
WFR, AMGA SPI, flexible, adaptable, enthusiastic, we can help pursue qualifications like WFR and AMGA SPI if applicant is a strong candidate
About Camp Illahee
We are a residential girls' summer camp in Brevard, NC. We offer sessions ranging from 1 to 4 weeks in length and lead daily adventure trips climbing, kayaking, and hiking as well as offering classic camp activities like art, field sports, ceramics, target sports, and many more! Our daily adventure trips often go to Pisgah National Forest and surrounding Western North Carolina highlights like the Tuckasegee, Chattooga, and Green rivers. We strive to create an inclusive, challenging, and supportive environment where campers and staff belong, have fun, and know that they are valued in our community.
