Overview
The Program Manager works closely with the Education Director to develop and maintain Native programs at CFI, including our 10yr old Native Teen Guide in Training program, with a primary goal of increasing the number of Native programs at the organization. This position includes responsibility for risk management, development, maintenance and delivery of training materials, and culturally relevant curriculum. Additionally, the Program Manager will play a significant role in the generation and maintenance of relationships with schools, teachers, and program leads. Duties include assisting with hiring and training new 1st year Naturalist staff, assisting with Inclusion Diversity Equity and Ability (IDEA) initiatives, lesson planning, field instruction, land-based and river-based guiding, shuttle driving, cooking, rigging/de-rigging, gear maintenance, office support, and public outreach. The Program Manager will be working primarily with student groups from 5th-12th grade and some adult/family groups. As a member of a small, multi-talented team, the Program Manager may be asked to perform a wide variety of duties.
Primary Duties:
Acting as program lead for Native programs
Take responsibility for itinerary, logistics, booking, and budget of these programs
Manage field staff on these programs
Trip guiding, trip leading, assisting with camp operations, vehicles and equipment repair
Develop working relationships with tribal governments, schools, and community leader
Qualifications:
- 1 year experience with student-centered learning and outdoor education with youth
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with tribal governments, schools, and community leaders
- Demonstrated success in designing and managing programs that support Indigenous cultural education and environmental stewardship
- Familiarity with the challenges and barriers faced by Native youth and a passion for addressing these in outdoor programming.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 21 years old
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
- Current Driver’s License and willingness to participate in, and pass, Driver Training
- Maintain a clean driving record, pass and keep current, a DOT physical exam at CFI’s expense
- Available to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, and weekends
