Our Recreation Supervisors are the face of the organization providing day-to-day leadership and working with staff to ensure a high-performing, customer service-oriented work environment that supports the department’s mission and goals and customer expectations. As center leaders, our supervisors work autonomously to ensure all facility operations are managed, with an awareness of the center’s impact on the broad vision of the organization.
Currently, we are hiring for a Recreation Senior Supervisor to oversee DPR’s Outdoor Recreation Program along with the world-class team of recreation professionals at the Southwest Recreation Center.
Job responsibilities for this position include:
Provide leadership for day-to-day operations of the Outdoor Recreation Program and Southwest Recreation Center
Manage Outdoor Recreation program sites and locations while collaborating with full-time staff and risk management to develop policies and procedures for new program activities
Oversee program calendar and staff scheduling to maximize programming opportunities while ensuring that staffing and resources are available to support a variety of programs
Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of recreation staff members; provide training and mentorship to staff, and establish work goals and objectives
Manage center and program budgets and allocate resources accordingly
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community groups and other organizations to identify and assess community needs, develop/modify programs, and guide implementation to improve services
Coordinate special events, activities, and programs and collaborate with other recreation staff to develop interagency coordinated programs
Implement and enforce rules, policies, and guidelines for recreation participants and ensure a safe, fun environment for all center and program patrons and staff
Manage recreational permitting through land agencies such as the Forest Service, National Park Service, and county open spaces
Assist in hiring, staff recruitment, and implementing of on-call staff training and development
Required Skills:

Preferred Skills:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Outdoor Recreation, Recreation Management, or another directly related field
Wilderness First Aid Certification and certifications in other outdoor recreation disciplines
Experience in various supervisory functions, including leading a diverse team of part-time and full-time staff
Experience improving and sustaining operational efficiency of a recreation facility and recreation program area
Experience mentoring and coaching others in a professional group enviro
