Leadership:
Extensive supervisory and leadership skills (3+ years) in an outdoor program setting. A commitment to building high functioning teams and encouraging a culture that is inclusive and supports growth and development of team members; ability to supervise a wide array of program areas, and provide direction and vision for the team.

Collaboration:
Ability to build exceptional relationships with all stakeholders and community partners to advance organizational priorities, find solutions to emerging community needs, and plan for the future.

Communication:
Ability to communicate complex and/or sensitive information to a wide-variety of stakeholders in a timely manner. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in public forums and one-on-one, with a variety of audiences.

Customer Service:
Model and encourage delivery of service in a way that reflects the City of Eugene’s values of professionalism, integrity and trust.

Solution Based:
Ability to quickly assess complex problems and take appropriate action in ways that strengthen relationships with key stakeholders.

Salary: Recreation Program Supervisor $31.30 – $40.50 hourly

Location: River House Outdoor Center, 301 N. Adams St, Eugene and recreation sites throughout the region.
Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite for work as needed in Eugene, OR to meet business needs.

Schedule: 40 hours/week (typically Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, with some weekend/evening hours based on seasonal/program demands)

Qualifications:

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Typically:
Three years of experience in the implementation of recreational, social and cultural programs and services directly related to outdoor recreation.
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, human services, or a closely related field.
Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire
Valid First Aid, Youth/ Child/ Adult CPR/ AED

Required Skills:

Have 3 or more years of supervisory experience.
Have highly advanced to expert proficiency in at least one outdoor adventure area. Experience and skills include strategic thinking, creativity and initiative, organization, staff supervision, budgeting, problem solving, flexibility, and decisiveness.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in public forums and one-on-one, with a variety of audiences.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of:

National and regional recreational programming trends, current literature, and community resources for program planning and development of services.

Public administration concepts and theories.

Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, polices and regulations. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.

Principles and practices in Risk Management of Recreation Services

Wilderness First Responder is preferred

The River House Outdoor Center (RHOC) is home to the City of Eugene's well-loved and respected Outdoor Program, offering a wide array of adventurous recreation opportunities to citizens since 1966. Throughout its evolution, the RHOC has stayed true to its mission "to inspire a lifelong passion to imagine, explore, learn, grow and contribute", working to make the outdoors accessible to the public, promoting stewardship of our natural places, and facilitating personal and community growth. The RHOC is part of the Recreation Division of the City's Library, Recreation and Cultural Services (LRCS) Department.
