Overview

The Veteran’s Corps Program Manager will play a significant role in the initial launch and start-up of the 3-year pilot program and in a unique position to help shape the vision and program design for the long-term. Initially, the role of the Veterans Corps Program Manager will be to conduct outreach and member recruitment prior to program start-up, while also developing the initial program design, orientation, and training logistics to be done in collaboration with the Program Director and other key Corps staff. As Veteran Corps members join the program, the Program Manager will increasingly focus more on identifying, assessing, developing, and coordinating existing community resource programs and activities that may support our Veteran Corps members in educational and work skills development while serving with Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa. The Veterans Corps program aims to recruit 12 Veteran participants (2 crews) in the first year of start-up.

Relationships:
The Veterans Corps Program Manager reports directly to the Program Director of AmeriCorps Field Crews. In addition, they will work closely with other program staff including District Managers, Assistant District Managers, and Field Coordinators.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with and conduct outreach and recruitment to Veterans and Veterans-serving groups who may be interested in serving in and/or supporting the Veterans Corps of CCMI.
• Initiate the initial start-up and program design of the field crew program for the Veterans Corps.
• Work in close collaboration with the Program Director of AmeriCorps Field Crew Programs and other key CCMI staff in the orientation, training, and roll-out for the Veterans Corps crews and programming.
• Develop and implement programming and services that assist Veterans Corps members with reintegration into civilian life and successful outcomes because of continued national service in the Veterans Corps.
• Establish Veteran friendly policies and procedures, outreach, recruitment, and retention for Veteran participants through active advising and coordination with Veteran resources and contacts in local communities where our Veteran Corps members are serving.
• Provide services to Veterans including career advising and certification of benefits, dissemination of technical information, analysis, and recommendations to determine the most effective use of available benefits.
• Maintain high levels of awareness for the program in conjunction with CCMI’s Administration and Communications teams, to promote and foster support for Veteran-friendly policies and services to Veterans Corps members and their family members.

Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Veterans’ affairs and services, 2 plus years’ experience working with Veterans’ population.
• Ability and willingness to travel regionally or statewide, on an as needed basis to conduct outreach or recruitment.
• Supervisory and programming experience (preferably with the 18-35 age group) and ability to problem solve and respond competently to situations associated with managing Veterans in a work setting.

Required Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective presentation and organizational skills.
• Entrepreneurial, self-starter, self-directed, and collaborative.
• Demonstrated experience working with people with diverse backgrounds and willingness to bring a race-equity lens into the workplace.
• Demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating training.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with AmeriCorps and local, state, and federal natural resource agencies, a plus.
