The Outdoor Education (OE) Fellow supports student growth and wellness through various venues including wilderness trips, personal growth activities, and outdoor skills. The OE Fellow will co-instruct wilderness trips; develop and facilitate on- and off-campus adventure-based programming; and create and enhance outdoor education curriculum, student mentorship, and best practices in wilderness trip management and instruction. The OE Department is also responsible for supporting outdoor components in courses and maintaining our wilderness equipment and supplies. The OE Fellow will build Eagle Rock’s capacity to better serve our students in alignment with our antiracist, social justice commitment by creating new curriculum and courses, testing new instructional strategies, and sharing effective practices with our network of educators across the country.

Awareness and knowledge of cultural competencies and social justice issues, with demonstrated actions toward creating more just and equitable communities

Current CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification

Solid basic mountaineering, backcountry travel, and top-rope climbing skills

Strong organizational, logistical, trip planning skills

Sound judgment in the outdoors

Ability and willingness to work long hours, both indoors and outside

Experience on extended expeditions (14+ days

Required Skills:

Experience working with adolescents in the outdoors and facilitating group learning

Long-term commitment to being an outdoor professional

Relevant experience working with youth, in non-profit or educational settings, ideally HS age

Must be a self starter who is flexible and possesses energy to meet demands of a residential community life

Strong ability to work independently

Strong organizational skills

Strong communication skills (clear, direct, honest communication preferred)
