Overview

Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center (Eagle Rock / ERS), is seeking an experienced and passionate Outdoor Education Program Manager (OE-PM) to direct the outdoor education department. The OE-PM is responsible for the oversight and facilitation of outdoor and adventure-based experiences and corresponding curricular development, risk management, and administrative tasks. Our 24-day Wilderness Orientation course is a primary focus for the OE department and the OE-PM is tasked with facilitating meaningful courses incorporating outdoor education and social-emotional learning through an anti-oppressive lens. These 24-day courses occur 2-3x/year in Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico and the OE-PM is responsible for the hiring and management of staff, oversight of curriculum and facilitation, coordinating logistics, and ensuring sound risk management. The OE-PM serves as part of Eagle Rock’s student services team and accordingly contributes to both the residential life and academic aspects of the boarding school experience. The OE-PM plays a significant role in the onboarding of new students and expanding outdoor-based and personal growth-oriented opportunities throughout the students’ time at ERS. The OE-PM also serves as a supervisor and mentor for 2-6 staff and wilderness instructors and is responsible for managing the Wilderness Gear and Food Shed as well as the operating budget and AEE accreditation.

Extensive (3 years minimum) course director/proctor in a variety of course settings AND fieldwork as lead instructor
Outdoor Education or related Degree(s) or equivalent experience
Wilderness First Responder (or WEMT) required
Experience hiring, training, and managing & mentoring field instructors
Experience managing logistical operations, inventories, and budgets
Experience developing policies and overseeing risk management systems
Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) highly preferred
Competence in a variety of outdoor skills such as, but not limited to, backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, and skiing
Teaching experience in a wide variety of course designs and program models
Strong organizational, leadership, and administrative skills
Experience working with diverse populations including a mix of LGBTIQ students; students from low-income backgrounds; and students from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds all of whom have not found success in traditional educational settings.
