Overview

The Outdoor Education (OE) Fellow supports student growth and wellness through various venues including wilderness trips, personal growth activities, and outdoor skills. The OE Fellow will co-instruct wilderness trips; develop and facilitate on- and off-campus adventure-based programming; and create and enhance outdoor education curriculum, student mentorship, and best practices in wilderness trip management and instruction. The OE Department is also responsible for supporting outdoor components in courses and maintaining our wilderness equipment and supplies. The OE Fellow will build Eagle Rock’s capacity to better serve our students in alignment with our antiracist, social justice commitment by creating new curriculum and courses, testing new instructional strategies, and sharing effective practices with our network of educators across the country.

Responsibilities

Build community and create programming aligned with our antiracist, social justice commitment and our values of “8+5=10”

Act as an assistant instructor or logistics coordinator for the 25-day wilderness course 2x/year

Assist with all trip logistics, including food planning, gear management, data entry, and paperwork

Assist with outdoor education curriculum development

Support non-OE staff when incorporating adventure activities into the academic or residential curriculum

Practice sound health habits, including getting sufficient rest, to perform the position requirements effectively

Supervise students and organize activities during out-of-class time

Develop positive mentoring relationships with students, fostering personal and community growth

Participate as a member of a student house team in case conferencing, advisory, meals, and retreats

Design and deliver a Team Service Project, building on community assets

Support program staff, your supervisors and administrative staff in duties as appropriate and necessary

Willingness to work unconventional hours including being full-time as a wilderness instructor and working evenings on campus and a schedule of Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday while on campus

Consult with your supervisor if you have any ideas, issues or concerns, offering analysis and solutions whenever possible

Eagle Rock School is a co-ed, residential, tuition free, private, non-profit, full academic curriculum high school in Estes Park, CO designed to work with students who chose to enroll and want to engage more fully in their education.
