Overview

Leads backcountry, camping, and hiking programs and supports all outdoor recreation programs and activities involved with MetroParks’, community outreach, and special events including the region’s largest outdoor adventure festival. Supports the Outdoor Recreation Division’s administrative operations, equipment maintenance and management, and other functions. Provides input and support to other division coordinators across the programming department.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in outdoor recreation management or closely related field and one year experience in outdoor recreation programming. Willingness and ability to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Wilderness First Aid certification acquired within one year of employment.

Specialized outdoor recreation certifications as needed.

Required Skills:

Personal experience with one or more outdoor adventure and nature program activities such as kayaking/canoeing/Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), road and /or mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, outdoor foundation skills including camping, wilderness medicine, fishing, map, and compass navigation, trip planning, leadership, natural interpretation is preferred.

Preferred Skills:

The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor recreation programming and supervision with a strong skillset in backpacking, camping, and hiking that includes experience with backcountry travel with an emphasis on leading groups and instructing in these environments. They will have a strong understanding of land navigation, leave no trace, and wilderness medicine. They will have outdoor industry knowledge and relationships and comfort advocating within the community. Good office skills necessary.
