Overview
We’re proud of the overnight trips we take, and during the summer months, taking a trip out of camp is one of the highlights for our campers. We’re looking for trip leaders to help make this program a success.
As a Trip Leader, you’ll plan and lead 1-to 5-night trips to various destinations throughout the beautiful San Juan Islands. While on land, you’ll teach outdoor skills and environmental care and encourage campers to develop self-sufficiency. Safety is a top priority.
You should be comfortable leading trips in at least two of the following modes of transportation: kayak, canoe, backpacking, and sailing.
Lifeguard training, Wilderness First Aid (such as WFA, WFR, or WEMT – we can help get you certified!), documented skill and experience leading similar trips are all required. This is a great gig for folks looking gain trip-leading experience, who are newer to trip leading in a professional context!
Our Trip Leaders must be at least 21 years old. You will work in a team of 5 Trip Leaders that we hire each summer.
Qualifications:
WFA or WFR and lifeguard (we will help if you don't have these!); experience planning and leading multi-day trips -- backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, sailing (must have experience with at least 2); must love working with young people!
About Four Winds Westward Ho Camp
Four Winds * Westward Ho is an independent, non-profit, traditional summer camp for boys and girls ages 7-18. In addition to our wide variety of in-camp activities, we offer an impressive out-of-camp Trip Program. Our trips range in length from 1-6 nights, and they travel by canoe, kayak, backpacking, and sailboat throughout the surrounding San Juan Islands.
