Overview

Camp Echo’s Adventure Trip Guides carry out the execution of backcountry adventure trips for campers, grades 7-13. Trips range from 4 to 12 days in backcountry settings around the United States. Guides are responsible for caring for all individuals on the trip in spirit, mind, and body. This leadership requires knowledge of youth development, wilderness medicine, backcountry cooking and food safety, wilderness trip logistics and practices, communication, and much more. Guides must have a strong sense of personal and group responsibility as well as a strong sense of stewardship for the natural world.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 21 with a valid US driver’s license and clean driving record per insurance requirements for camp drivers.
• Wilderness First Responder required.
• Lifeguard highly preferred.
• Comfortability in the backcountry and wilderness experience required.
• Leadership ability and teamwork oriented.
• Possess a variety of skills and primitive camping experience with knowledge of LNT and equity in the outdoors.
• A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population

About McGaw YMCA Camp Echo

Camp Echo is a residential YMCA camp on Ryerson Long Lake located near Fremont, Michigan. The site includes 500 acres of scenic land, lodging for more than 250 campers, an extensive network of hiking and horseback trails with onsite campgrounds, a traversing wall, a ropes challenge course, climbing wall, archery range, ga-ga pits, basketball court, tennis court, softball field, and a lake for fishing, sailing, boating, swimming, and canoeing.

Adventure Trips are designed to provide unforgettable, life-changing experiences for teens entering 7th – 12th grades. Whether it’s canoeing through majestic blue waters or backpacking in rugged terrain, adventure trips take the skill building opportunities, friendships, and fun of traditional summer camp on the road! After a thorough orientation at Camp Echo, campers load up their gear and head to their destination to start their adventure.
