Overview

The National Center for Outdoor and Adventure Education (NCOAE) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Logistics Coordinator for the 2022 season, to manage program logistics for all Southeast based courses.

NCOAE is a values-based outdoor and adventure education provider for teens and adults interested in personal growth and professional development. From North Carolina to the high Andes, NCOAE develops and facilitates professionally guided outdoor experiences to foster an engaged educational community, through personal growth and the acquisition of technical and academic skills.

Major Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Knowledge and competency in following policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
• Ability to collaborate and participate as a team member.
• Manage all gear and food pack systems.
• Participate in pre-trip pack outs, assisting field instructors as needed.
• Participate in post trip gear de-issues, assuring proper handling of gear.
• Assess all gear post-trip, for cleanliness and any needed repair. Return all gear and supplies to proper storage location.
• Communicate in a clear, effective and timely manner to Program Director, interns, instructors, and other staff.
• Consistently strive to share & receive feedback from co-workers & supervisors.
• Organize and schedule routine vehicle maintenance, including weekly checks, oil changes, tire rotations, safety inspections.
• Manage and maintain inventories of food, gear, and course supplies. Report course needs to supervisor.
• Follow systems for gear management to ensure easy packing, cleaning, repairing, and inventorying of gear and food.
• Orient staff and interns to gear storage procedures. Maintain expectations with staff about their role in logistical systems.
• Maintain organization and conduct routine cleaning of equipment and food storage areas.
• Prepare and submit a variety of paperwork, including vehicle logs, inventories, and other reports as requested.
• Provide transportation of gear, field staff, and/or participants, including to and from the field.
• Respond to field emergencies as needed, including providing emergency transportation, supply delivery, or field supervision.
• Maintain the physical and emotional safety of students, serving as a role model and managing behaviors in a positive manner.
• Contribute to maintaining safe, fun and engaging courses, supporting the instructor team as necessary.
• Participate in mandatory NCOAE-related training and meetings.
• Commit to own professional development, including technical & interpersonal skills
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Prior experience working with wilderness programs, outdoor education, outdoor recreation, residential summer camps, or related field
• Current Wilderness First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
• Prior experience working in a supervisory role
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Competency in risk management
• Prior to hiring: Satisfactory completion of an NCOAE on-campus instructor training

Required Skills:

Physical Requirements:

• Extensive use of computer keyboards and the telephone is required.
• The ability to lift and carry approximately 50 lbs of gear, for up to five miles at a time. Reaching and bending.
• Daily walking and hiking several miles in rugged, remote terrain while wearing a backpack.
• Ability to perform job duties inside and outdoor in all types of weather conditions, i.e. rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least 1 year prior experience in logistical/support position
• Bachelor’s degree (or working towards) in Outdoor Education, Outdoor Recreation, or related field preferred
• Wilderness First Responder certification
