Overview

Northwest Outward Bound School is currently hiring for Lead Instructors. We are seeking applicants that have worked a minimum of 75 course days as a Lead Instructor at other outdoor/experiential education organizations delivering expeditionary programming. After being hired and attending All Staff Training in May 2022, an additional 15 course days working as an NWOBS Instructor will be required prior to working as a Lead.

We seek applicants that are proficient in backcountry camp craft and highly experienced in at least two of the following outdoor skills: backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing, sea kayaking, whitewater rafting, and flat water canoeing. We expect that every Instructor brings their authentic and unique self to their role. The work is challenging, yet rewarding, and demands humility, creativity, flexibility, good humor, determination, and above all: compassion.

Qualifications:

Must be 21 years of age or older.
3+ years of comparable experience in risk management, experiential education, and/or outdoor skills. Have worked a minimum of 75 course days as a Lead Instructor at other outdoor/experiential education organizations delivering expeditionary programming.
Eligible for Tier 2 skills trainings (Alpine 2, Rock 2, River 2, etc) and be assessed as “meets standard” for elements you will be leading.
Complete a full NWOBS training season including Lead Instructor training
