Overview

Our educational mission is to prepare children to thoughtfully navigate the climate and environmental challenges (and the social, economic and political ones that will follow) of this century in which they are coming of age. A small group of 3-8 children ages 4-10 will provide a pilot group to initiate doing so. Curriculum will focus on level appropriate learning of the interdependence of our world to include the teaching of thermodynamics, human and natural systems, world history and philosophy as well as how to build and grow things in an indoor/outdoor bilingual Spanish/English setting. While our location is urban (Washington, DC) school property abuts Rock Creek Park and trips further afield for discovery are expected. The right teacher for this position will be energetic, bilingual, self motivated and organized teacher with at least 7 years experience and be knowledgeable in curriculum design, experiential learning, outdoor learning and hard wired to the natural world. Salary starting at $60,000 based on experience and additional skills, stipend towards health insurance and excellent housing can be made available.
This position is full time.

Qualifications:

Fully fluent in spoken and written Spanish and English
7+ years teaching experience, at least some of that in the age range of the children
High physical stamina and ability
Experience or degree in curriculum design and development
Training and experience in experiential learning
Social-emotional learning experience
Current passport
A thorough background check will be completed
Start no later than September 6, 2022
Personal and professional references provided upon request

Preferred Skills:

Special needs or social emotional development training
NOLS, Outward Bound or similar training and/or outdoors teaching experience
Athletics skills in a specific sport or activity
Musical instrument or voice training
Open to the possibility of moving overseas to continue teaching starting Summer 2023
Fluency in Farsi
