Overview
Crew Leaders participate and directly supervise additional staff in various conservation, ranch, student and guest duties, such as trail maintenance; felling, cutting, milling and splitting wood; fence repair, working with horses and cattle; construction and building maintenance; assisting guides with guests on hikes, supported treks and horseback trips; supply runs (involving boat and vehicle travel); bridge building; pasture clearing; greenhouse and vegetable gardening; caring for the orchard; preparing rooms and gear for guests; packing supplies on treks; small engine repair; administrative work; shore and stream restoration, invasive species removal; and carrying heavy and awkward loads to remote locations. In addition, crew leaders participate in community, group, camp and guest chores including meal preparation, cleanup, and care of shared and personal spaces.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be able to work outside in all types of weather. They must be able to live in a tent in the wilderness and at the wilderness ranch for the length of the position, must be able to work in a team in a multi-cultural environment, maintain a positive attitude, and be able to work effectively fellow staff, students and guests in a dynamic environment.
Required Skills:
Crew leaders are safe, proficient chainsaw operators, certified sawyers, or experienced equivalent.
Preferred Skills:
First aid, wilderness living, trail and fence work, greenhouse, cooking, customer service, ranch skills and Spanish language skills are beneficial.
