Overview

Job Objective: The NOLS Patagonia Operations Manager serves with the NOLS Patagonia Program Manager and the NOLS Patagonia Director to provide administrative oversight and team supervision that ensures excellent course outcomes for every student and high functioning teams at all levels in accordance with the NOLS mission, NOLS Patagonia vision, and school-wide strategic goals. The Operations Manager will oversee the functions of NOLS Patagonia operational support staff, and ensure that in-town systems and procedures align with NOLS risk management philosophy. With the NOLS PAT Director and Facilities and Campo Manager will administer headquarters construction projects.

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of and passion for the NOLS mission and operations, and commitment to serve our students. 
  • A positive attitude, calm demeanor, and high degree of motivation, initiative, and organizational skills are required. 
  • The position demands self-motivation and adaptability, along with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends or holidays, to support operations.
  • Previous management and/or supervision experience, and the ability to improve, innovate, and implement systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English are necessary.
  • This position requires a creative, energetic person with strong organizational, supervision, and team facilitation skills.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Excel and Google suite and Point of Sale Inventory Management Systems (POSIM).

Leadership or Supervisory Duties: NOLS Patagonia Operations Manager recruits, hires, trains and directly supervises operations department managers in logistics, equipment, rations, kitchen, and maintenance. This position NOLS operating area access by tracking land ownership and maintaining permits. NOLS Patagonia operations manager represents the school with both staff and Chilean educational, governmental, and financial agencies. NOLS Patagonia operations manager serves as Acting Director during Director’s absence.

 

Funds and/or Property: Responsible for assisting the Director to build budgets and track expenses in departments under their supervision which include logistics and transportation, rations, kitchen, equipment, maintenance and private services totaling approximately $500,000 USD in expenses and $200,000 USD in revenues. Will have signature authority on all banking and petty cash accounts.

 

Responsibilities:

70% Provide leadership and supervision in areas of assigned oversight at NOLS Patagonia

  •   Scheduling, planning, support, and implementation and expense tracking.
  •   Ensure all operating areas are functional, clean and ready to support courses. 
  • Oversee all operations responsibilities, including course transportation, facility acquisition, meal preparation and outfitting as necessary to maintain excellent student service.
  • Operations calendar management.
  • Weekly meeting with each operating manager.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager communications among all departments.
  • Run with the Program Manager weekly Manager Meetings.
  • Ensure we provide quality service and support to our students and instructors.
  • Guarantee smooth operations flow while students and instructors are at NOLS campus.
  • Guarantee smooth rendezvous and course transition.
  • Along with facilities and transportation managers, plan and execute the maintenance, acquisition, cleanliness, and safety of campus and its vehicles, equipment, and supplies.
  • Along with facilities manager, coordinate and oversee all scheduled maintenance and upkeep on campus such as septic pumping, winterizing, and meeting environmental, labor, and sanitation requirements.
  • With the NOLS PAT Director and Facilities and Campo Manager will administer headquarters construction projects.
  • Ensure that COVID campus practices are implemented and maintained throughout the season.

 10% Evacuation supervision

  •     Managing all course communication devices.
  •     Scheduling evacuation coordinator rotation.
  •     Overseeing all the evacuation procedures, paperwork and billing process.
  •     Regularly serve as evacuation coordinator and support evacuees while they are in town.

 10% Assist Director

  •     Overall supervision of NOLS Patagonia.
  •     Setting asset priorities.
  •     Branch vision and strategies for growth.
  •     Serve as acting director during director’s absence.

   10%    Other duties as assigned by Director

Motor Vehicle Record:Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver’s license. Must have a clean driving history and be able to meet the criteria for NOLS vehicle insurance coverage.  

COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

All employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their first day of work, unless they meet a medical, disability or religious exemption and a reasonable accommodation is approved. Any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) is an acceptable vaccine for the purpose of this policy. Work Location and Conditions:  This is a ten-month position running August through May. The Patagonia operations manager works from NOLS’ campus,  which is a 437-acre property (Campo Las Vertientes) located eleven kilometers outside of Coyhaique, Chile.
