Overview
Rippleffect is seeking individuals who have experience working with youth in varied outdoor education settings for our Adventure Academy After-School Program Guide position. Rippleffect is excited to expand our guide team to support our After-School program offerings for the 2023-2024 school year beginning in September!
Our After-School Program serves 3rd-5th graders at Ocean Ave, Longfellow, Reiche, and Rowe Elementary Schools in Portland, ME. Each day begins with picking students up from school in our 15-passenger bus and heading out for a micro adventure around Portland’s surrounding woods, parks, and waters. The program days end with a community activity time in our classroom at 159 State Street in Portland, with parent pick-up at 5:30PM. Play, exploration, outdoor skills, and leadership curriculum are all woven into the program to provide a safe place for young people to connect, explore, and form new friendships!
Guides will work at least two 4-5 hour shift per week for the duration of at least one 2023-2024 school-year session. Fall Session (9/6/23-12/21/23), Winter Session (1/2/24-3/29/24) and Spring Session (4/1/24-6/12/24), excluding school closures and holidays. Shifts are 1:30-6:00PM on Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri, and 12:30-6:00PM on Wednesdays.
Compensation is $17-$19/hr depending on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications:
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are committed to and have a passion for working with youth. These individuals must also have a passion for working outdoors.
All applicants must be at least 17 years of age.
All applicants must be First Aid and CPR certified.
Required Skills:
Ability to work in an outdoor setting for the duration of a 4-5 hour shift, including but not limited to: rain, winds, heat, humidity, and cold temperatures.
Ability to work with a diverse group of participants while managing group conflict resolution and behavioral management.
Applicants must be open minded, flexible, and possess a growth-mindset.
Preferred Skills:
Preference will be given to applicants who have a driver's license, are over the age of 21, and able to drive a 15-passenger bus, as well as those willing to commit to working multiple sessions. About Rippleffect
Rippleffect is an outdoor education program based in Portland, Maine and on our Casco Bay Cow Island base camp. A non-profit, Rippleffect serves over 5,000 youth through four seasons of outdoor adventures in an array of programming. Through partnerships with local schools, our after-school program, summer camps, kayaking and back packing expeditions, rock and ice climbing, and alpine mountaineering, we serve as an access point for youth in our community.
