About Us

NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) is a nonprofit global wilderness school that supports thousands of students each year all over the world.  Our school began in a small cabin in Sinks Canyon, Wyoming in 1965 as the National Outdoor Leadership School. At that time, we were primarily an outdoors skills school, doing our work in local mountain ranges and exploring what it meant to teach leadership in the backcountry. Today, we are NOLS, a multifaceted wilderness school headquartered in Lander, Wyoming with locations in seven U.S. states and six countries, that supports thousands of students each year all over the world in both field & classroom courses.


This entry-level position provides an opportunity to learn and understand NOLS campus operations as a whole.  This staff member will be integrated into team work for different departments, all working to create positive student experiences at a bustling NOLS location.

Preferred skills

  • Familiarity with the google suite (gmail, google drive, google docs, and google sheets)
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, working while standing for extended periods of time, functioning well in outdoor conditions
  • Experience backpacking and familiarity with outdoor equipment


  • Assist the rations (field food) manager, equipment manager, and Noble Hotel manager by providing pre- and post-course support to our summer programs. 
  • Support the evacuation supervisor by picking up evacuated students at road access points. Driving responsibilities also include drives to regional airports and occasional doctor’s visits for students and staff. 
  • Assist the Operations Supervisor, program supervisors, assistant director, and director with administrative work and other tasks including organizing pre-course and end-of-course paperwork.

Work Location and Compensation

NOLS Rocky Mountain, Lander, WY. This is a salaried fall seasonal position (approximately 10-13 weeks). The position will plan on 40 hours of work per week, with odd hours and weekend hours. Shared dorm-style housing available for a small fee. 

Motor Vehicle Record:  

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the position start date and possess a valid driver’s license. Must have a clean driving history and be able to meet the criteria for NOLS vehicle insurance coverage.
