Under the direction of the Director of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness Manager helps maintain, implement and oversee risk management and safety systems for all activities and events within the Sierra Club, including extensive outdoor recreation and education programs. The Manager works with volunteers and staff across programmatic and administrative areas of the organization including Finance, Information Technology, Facilities, National Outings, Sierra Student Coalition, Inspiring Connection Outdoors, Local Outings and Chapters, Volunteer Groups and Committees, Organizing, Advancement and others to ensure appropriate safety practices, policy, and protocols are in place and followed. Minimum 5 years’ prior experience in safety and risk and program management of outdoor recreation programs and activities including experience with youth programs, including management experience.
Extensive knowledge and experience in a wide variety of safety and risk management protocols and practices.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to track multiple priorities.
Experience working under pressure, dealing with life/death situations and managing critical situations.

B.A. degree in Business and Outdoor Recreation, Program Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior experience working with volunteers and working within diverse working groups.
Experience developing training materials.
Experience with public speaking.
Experience chairing committees and managing team and taskforce project management.
Experience traveling and working internationally.
