Overview

As a guide of Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides you will lead varying sized groups of clients on hiking, backpacking and pack-supported trips of varying lengths. Guides are responsible for all aspects of the trips they are leading, including prep and debrief, and are expected to work in a collaborative manner with fellow guides and admin supervisors, while maintaining a safe and fun atmosphere with the clients. SYMG has 30 years of experience leading trips in the High Sierra, and is proud to be among the industry leaders in terms of both employee and client satisfaction. We have recently increased guide wages to attract and retain the most passionate wilderness leaders, who have ample knowledge of the natural history of the Sierra Nevada, and a wealth of guiding experience in general. This is seasonal work, from early-mid June through early October. New hires can usually expect about 50 days in the field, as well as paid trip-prep and some training days.

Qualifications:

* Current WFR (minimum)
* Experience with backcountry travel in the Sierra Nevada
* Excellent backcountry cooking skills (need CA food handler's cert. before going out in the field)

Required Skills:

* An easy-going, personable and professional demeanor
* Excellent communication skills
* Proficiency with map and compass
* Able to lift 50 lbs, and work in a variety of conditions (extreme temps)

Preferred Skills:

Detailed knowledge of the flora and fauna of the High Sierra; a healthy repetoire of tasteful jokes; ability to do some interpretive astronomy; experience hiking the JMT a plus; comfortable working with people of diverse backgrounds, including older folk
