Overview
The 2023 NPS Roving Cultural Landscape & Trail Crops will be partnering with the National Park Service to complete two hitches over 14 weeks. The 4 person team (1 leader and 3 members) will be working in two seperate National sites with differing goals for each.
Hitch 1: 8 Weeks at Harry S. Truman National Historic Site (MO)
At Harry S. Truman National Historic Site, projects will focus on enhancing the cultural landscape. Through the use of hand tools and powered equipment, the crew will remove and thin trees, shrubs, and other vegetation to improve the viewshed of the cultural landscape and improve site safety. The crew will plant and stake trees and shrubs to provide screening of nearby residential and commercial properties and improve the site lines throughout the landscape of the farm.
Hitch 2: 4 Weeks at Arkansas Post National Monument (AR)
At Arkansas Post National Monument, projects will focus on trail maintenance. The crew will repair or replace timber retaining walls along two trails where the walls are beginning to deteriorate and bulge. The crew will also engage in a small roofing project, working alongside NPC Maintenance staff to remove shingles, install a weather shield, and install shingles.

weeks field work)
The team will stay at frontcountry campsites and in rented housing. SCA will provide all necessary support services, crew leadership, transportation, personal safety equipment, and other standard materials/supplies necessary to perform the work.
Primary Responsibilities:
Engage as a crew member to promote healthy group dynamics, and promote effective and productive teamwork;
Work variable hours (long days and/or weekend), at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, in varying weather conditions, and under physically demanding circumstances;
Use technical equipment including a chainsaw, hand tools.
Strong candidates will have the following knowledge, skills, experience:
Experience working in an outdoor setting;
Coursework or degree in environmental science, or similar natural resource field;
Experience operating various types of forestry equipment in a safe and efficient manner (chainsaws, backpack sprayers, two-way radio, etc.);
Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s);
Positive communication skills and ability to work with a team.
Team Member Benefits:
$375/week living allowance (paid bi-weekly)
One-time travel allowance ($650)

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record (MVR) that meets SCA standards required;
Interest in serving alongside and supporting others on a team;
Be a minimum of 18 years of age;
Have ability to legally work in the US;
Meet SCA’s criminal background check standards;
Ability to lift 40 pounds and independently travel 2 miles over varied terrain while carrying a 40-pound pack without assistance;
Ability to perform manual, physical labor in a variety of outdoor condit
