Overview
This position is responsible for assisting with Sunny Cove operational activities including, but not limited to trip logistics, shop duties, maintenance and repair of equipment, guiding or co-guiding trips, and participation in guide training. Must be willing to learn all aspects of operations, including guiding and sales office, follow directions, and have a clean US driver’s license. Prior guiding and management experience is preferred. This is a position that will begin with participation in the entirety of guide training, and will develop, and expand over time as the person in this position becomes comfortable with all aspects of our operations.
Expected number of hours: 45 – 50+/week, including possible guiding shifts
Dates: On-location, early April – late September. Some remote hours available October – March.
Pay: DOE, per Alaska regulations, overtime after 8 hours daily, and 40 hours weekly. In addition, there will be an annual bonus, health insurance reimbursement and performance bonuses. SEP IRA company contributions will be available after completing year two.
Schedule: Will vary depending on volume of trips and organizational needs but will be 45 to possibly 50+ hours per week.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in tourism, preferably with tour companies in remote locations
Excellent communication, management & organizational skills
Ability to work well with both staff and guests, potentially in demanding situations
Top notch leadership and mentorship skills
Valid Wilderness First Responder Cert
Strong computer skills
Valid driver’s license, clean driving record.
Reporting:
Work closely with Guest Experience Coordination, and Fox Island Coordinator
Work closely with staff of our charter partner, Seward Coastal Charters
Weekly meetings with Owner
Duties (includes but not limited to):
Support the owner and staff in day-to-day operations
Assist in organizing guide training
Oversee regularly scheduled feedback and skills progression
Organize mentoring program
Skill progression, work-ethic, teamwork, community living
Oversee housing, and track housekeeping schedules
Solicit feedback, ideas and concerns from guides to keep community harmonious
Assist in managing vehicle fleet
Assist in opening up for season, and closing down for season
Assisting in maintaining day trip food inventory
Create day trip food orders within budget
Maintain organization and cleanliness of prep facilities
Train staff to proper food preparation standards and expectations
Prepare food as needed
Assist in maintaining all gear & equipment at all locations
Keep an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all gear and equipment, including current status
Assist in maintaining, and keeping launch locations organized
Support development, quality, efficiency and overall programming of Sunny Cove tours
Support in other duties, needs and maintenance as they arise
Assist in overseeing kayak camping program
Fill in guiding, as needed
