The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in The Bahamas, was founded to create and support transformational educational experiences with the vision of leadership effecting change, on the island of Eleuthera. The diverse educational initiatives, including our High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning Center, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research, and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning how education is delivered.

Job Summary

The Island School is seeking a leader who will be responsible for Wellness, Medical and Crisis Response needs on our campus in The Bahamas. Reporting to the Director of Risk Management and Expeditionary Programs, the ideal candidate will have experience leading a small team of medical and mental health professionals and will carry current qualification as a Paramedic, or above. Located on the Island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, the Island School and Cape Eleuthera Institute operate year round offering educational programs to clients of all ages. Our semester-long educational programs involve students here for 100 days, following an academic curriculum that involves SCUBA, sailing and kayaking expeditions along with a rigorous physical activity schedule. In addition, students and staff are actively involved in marine research and education involving corals, turtles, sharks etc. The Wellness Team provides education and training for staff and students as well as acute care for this population. With faculty and guests, we look after clients from 2 years old to 80. Care is also provided on occasion to the communities of South Eleuthera on a larger scale in conjunction with local physicians, and clinics. Eleuthera is a remote island with no hospital and limited medical resources. The nature of the care and work we do reflects this challenging yet exciting environment.

Qualifications:

Education/Licensing: Registered Nurse, Paramedic, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistant preferred. Will consider LPN or W-EMT with relevant experience

Required Skills:

Experience: Ideally experience in both emergency medicine and within a school, camp or outdoor program setting, providing health and pastoral care to adolescents. Experience in outdoor/ adventure based educational programs that operate in a wilderness context. A working knowledge of dive and sports medicine is useful, but not required, as these are some of the more common injuries we treat
Leadership: Proven leadership experience
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
