Join an enthusiastic, inspiring team of educators and researchers to make a difference in the lives of youth from Alaska and beyond! Faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ International Arctic Research Center (IARC) and Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) seek a full-time Program Coordinator to lead the coordination of two science education/outreach programs for K-12 youth, including Inspiring Girls* Expeditions Alaska and Fostering Science. The Inspiring Girls* Expeditions Alaska program hosts unique, tuition-free expeditions for high school youth that blend science, art, and outdoor exploration in exciting landscapes. Fostering Science provides “science adventure camps” for youth aged 10-18 who are in care of the State (foster care), and science internships for older foster youth. This year-round position will be responsible for program outreach and recruiting, including through social media; coordinating application processes; supporting program logistics; overseeing safety and risk management policies and procedures; conducting program purchasing; communicating with participants; liaising with UAF administrative offices; and supporting the program leads with strategic planning for the future. Inspiring Girls* Expeditions Alaska is hosted at IARC, a premier institute with expertise spanning physical, biological, and social science research and education in the Arctic, while Fostering Science is based out of the Institute of Arctic Biology, which focuses on high-latitude research and outreach, with additional support from IARC. Bring your skills in science and/or outdoor education and logistics/coordination to a supportive and interdisciplinary team working to inspire the next generation of scientists and environmental leaders!

In this position, you will be part of a team designing and providing exciting informal education programs for K-12 students that engage youth in science and the outdoors. To thrive in this position, you will possess experience and/or training in environmental, outdoor, or science education, have supervisory and leadership experience with youth, have exceptional organizational and time management skills, and show a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. You will be excited to work in a dynamic research and education institution alongside an interdisciplinary team.
