Maine Bound Graduate Assistant

The University of Maine is seeking Graduate Assistant applicants for the 2021-2022 academic year. The graduate assistant works with the Assistant Director of the Maine Bound Adventure Center in collaboration with the Maine Bound Coordinator in target program areas within the scope of the Maine Bound Adventure program at UMaine.

Maine Bound is the outdoor program of Campus Recreation at the University of Maine and offers a full complement of activities in the areas of outdoor education and recreation, wilderness pursuits, and the development of skills necessary to enjoy and feel comfortable in the outdoor environment. Programs and services encompass a wide range of outdoor trips, outdoor orientation, custom contracts, challenge courses, an equipment rental program and indoor climbing center. Programs are open to all University of Maine students, the campus community and the general public. Maine Bound also provides educational outreach programs to other organizations and institutions. In consultation with the Assistant Director of Maine Bound and the Maine Bound Coordinator, the Graduate Assistant will teach and lead outdoor education and recreation programs and activities, developing and implementing outdoor recreation and education special events and develops and implements appropriate Maine Bound staff training.

Eligibility:
● Letter of Acceptance from the Graduate School by the end of March 2021
● Students with conditional admission are not eligible for an assistantship
● Completed FAFSA

Responsibilities:
● Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week from the week prior to the start of the academic year through the end of May
● Must not be employed full time in another position
● Must have skills, knowledge, and experience specific to the position

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree conferred by May 2021
● 2 years professional, in-the-field, outdoor leadership experience.
● Excellent interpersonal communication and public speaking skills
● Demonstrated student-client centered philosophy and approach.
● Prior leadership and/or instructional experience in outdoor recreation programming.
● Wilderness First Responder Certification
