Overview

The AmeriCorps Field Logistics Technician (FLT) provides leadership and support to multiple field crews, and assistance to field staff in seasonal trainings and logistical coordination. The FLT ensures that field crews are prepared to perform high-quality conservation service in a positive, safe, and productive environment. Support of field crews and operations may include (but is not limited to):

• Working with crews at their project sites
• Assisting with training crew leaders and members
• Performing project site visits; managing logistics for crews
• Maintaining tools and equipment
• Data entry and administrative tasks in the field office
• Assisting with crew member recruitment efforts
• Developing positive, lasting relationships with project partners

The FLT term of service is approximately 10 months, spanning 3 field seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall). This position involves frequent travel, camping, irregular hours, and a varying weekly schedule. The FLT must have strong leadership and communication skills, flexibility, capacity for self-direction, a passion for conservation work, and a desire to provide mentorship to emerging conservation leaders.

Qualifications:

• Trail maintenance and construction experience
• Chainsaw training and experience
• Experience with group communication, conflict management & resolution skills
• Maturity & professionalism in an environment with irregular and changing schedules
• Self-motivated with a commitment to personal and professional growth
• 6 months minimum leadership or supervisory experience in a team or crew-based setting

Required Skills:

• Demonstrated outdoor/camping skills (guiding, conservation work, front country/backcountry skills ) – volunteer/informal/formal
• Alignment with UCC’s mission and values of safety, service, community, inclusivity, positivity, and engagement
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• High school diploma or GED
• Eligible to enroll in an AmeriCorps term of service
• Pass a National Service Criminal History Check

Preferred Skills:

• 6 months experience in conservation corps, public lands management, or work in similar fields
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with administrators, supervisors, and peers
• Experience working with and demonstrating leadership in diverse communities
