Overview

As a long term substitute for a science teacher, you will be the acting homebase teacher for an 8th grade section, as well as teaching two sections of 8th grade Science, one section of 10th grade Biology, and one section of 12th grade Neuroscience, and one meeting of 9th grade Healthy Relationships in a rotating block schedule. You will be responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans as well as grading any work that comes in during your time at VMS. A curriculum and general lesson plans will be provided but independent thought and creativity in making adjustments will be important. Expect to work closely with all the members of the department in formal and informal meetings throughout your tenure in order to ensure vertical alignment, appropriate goals and objectives, and pedagogical direction. Work with Vail Mountain School as a full-time faculty member working with 8th – 12th grade students between roughly January 10, 2023 and April 7, 2023.

Qualifications:

A “raise your hand” type of person. You’re interested in participating in school events like orientation trips, field trips, sitting at lunch tables, and assisting with carpool. You are ready to participate fully in the life of the school.
Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university required
Deeply knowledgeable in the subject area; displaying dedication, passion, inspiration, the ability to individualize learning, and the capacity to help all students succeed.

Required Skills:

Ability to plan and execute daily lesson plans, evaluate students, and communicate with students, parents and other faculty
Work with Vail Mountain School as a full-time faculty member working with 8th - 12th grade students between roughly January 10, 2023 and April 7, 2023.
Ski with students on our school ski days, supervise students and execute an intraterm course dedicated to snow science.
