Overview

Apprentices perform important program support roles at the Twin Cities base, while simultaneously training to become an expedition instructor. They perform a multitude of instructional and support duties to gain a comprehensive appreciation for the instructor position and program management. Approximately 60% of time will be interacting with students, honing educational skills and gaining professional development and approximately 40% will be spent supporting the preparation, delivery, and logistics of courses.

Qualifications:

 Understanding of experiential and outdoor education principles
 Maintains motor vehicle record within OBUSA policies and procedures, ability to drive 15-passenger vehicle with trailer in all seasons, minimum age of 21
● Ability to work a varied and flexible schedule including many weekends

Required Skills:

 Teaching or facilitation experience, especially in experiential and outdoor education settings; teambuilding, canoeing, top-rope rock climbing, and/or challenge course facilitation
● Ability to participate in vigorous physical activity including but not limited to running, swimming, backpacking, and canoeing
● Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds on occasion, 40 pounds regularly

 Desire to support inclusive communities and equitable education opportunities for students of many ethnicities, races, socio-economic backgrounds, genders, learning abilities, and ages
 Patience, flexibility, and ability to work well in a dynamic team setting.
