At Wilderness Inquiry, we believe that everyone belongs. We work to ensure this belief holds true in our workplace, in our community, and in the outdoors. We pursue this belief through our mission and shared values of paddling together, seeking the exceptional, and finding a way.

The Sea Kayak Program Manager (SKPM) embraces those values and leads by example. This position is a seasonal, site-based managerial level position located on the Bayfield Peninsula near Little Sand Bay, WI. The SKPM is the onsite person responsible for coordinating staff, trips, and logistics of our 40-acre base camp, for approximately 60 trips per season.

While WI outdoor leaders will be self-sufficiently leading trips, the SKPM ensures that those trips run smoothly by making sure the base camp facilities and equipment are ready to go in between. It is the main responsibility of the SKPM to ensure an effective base camp creating a high quality experience for trip participants. The SKPM will be responsible for providing support, training and management of outdoor leaders, mitigating risk and serving as an on-site resource to help staff make sound decisions before and during their trips.

Candidates will have a proven track record of providing dynamic leadership. This position requires a combination of past field experience, as well as excellent management and supervisory skills. A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational skills and provide sound direction to staff. Lastly, the SKPM, sets the culture and community at WI’s base camp all summer long. The right candidate should look forward to creating a warm, welcoming, and positive environment.

We recognize that as an industry, there is much to do to increase representation in our field to reflect the communities we aim to serve. We also know that diversity of identities, experiences and ways of thinking result in better solutions for our communities. For this reason, we especially encourage applicants from communities who experience systemic barriers – including people of color, women, LGBTQIA+ and people with disabilities – to apply for this position.

TIME/WAGE: Seasonal summer position. Approximately mid May through late September. Flexible schedule required as programming dictates. Salary range $800 – $1,000 per week, commensurate with experience. Summer yurt living provided.
