Overview

The primary function of this position is to co-facilitate Outdoor GIRLS (Girl Immigrant and Refugee Leadership Series). This program is in partnership with local schools, is a multi-contact program, and is facilitated both during the school day and after school. This position may support additional youth programming as needed. Outdoor GIRLS is a program offered by Women’s Wilderness that leverages the power of connection to the outdoors and play to support the physical and mental health, social connectivity, and leadership development of older elementary, middle, and high school girls and non-binary youth who identify as immigrants, refugees, and asylees. This role will report to the Youth Programs Coordinator for the Outdoor GIRLS program, and will collaborate with other Women’s Wilderness Team members as needed.

Qualifications:

Current Child & Adult First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
Experience working directly with youth of all ages in a school, after-school, community, or sport/play setting.
Experience leading, instructing, and serving as a mentor for youth from non-dominant populations [girls, BIPOC youth, newcomers, and/or LGBTQ+ youth].
Prior experience or training in socio-emotional work.
Skilled in facilitating group discussions, promote awareness, and identify teachable moments

Required Skills:

Strong leadership skills, along with group management, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
Proficient with Google Workspace (.e.g Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms).
Strong written and verbal communication skills (English as a second language is welcomed).
Excellent judgment and decision making skills.
Personal experience recreating in the outdoors.

Preferred Skills:

Experience working in a wilderness setting in outdoor education or wilderness therapy.
Bi/multilingual applicants are highly encouraged to apply.
Degree in mental health related field and/or relevant experience.
Experience indoor and/or outdoor rock climbing and knowing how to belay climbers.
Current Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certification.
