This position supports the work of YMCA Camp Mason, a mission based Summer Camp and Outdoor Center, serving more than 12,000 people annually. YMCA Camp Mason is a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Summer Camp Director provides direct leadership and supervision of the summer overnight camp and day camp; program development and innovation, budgeting, recruiting and training staff, scheduling, and meeting goals set forth by YMCA Camp Mason.

Essential Functions of the position are:
1. Manage and oversee all day-to day summer camp programs and activities.
2. Ensure summer camp operations comply with all ACA standards, youth camp licensing requirements, Praesidium best practices and insurance requirements.
3. Recruit, hire, train, inspire, coach and evaluate seasonal staff for summer overnight and day camp.
4. Lead all necessary staff training to ensure a quality program and broaden the base of knowledge which the staff draws from, and provide ongoing staff development.
5. Cultivate relationships with campers, staff and alumni.
6. Assist in the marketing of camp and maintain a minimum 60% summer camper retention rate.
7. Manage the summer marketing schedule (open houses, tours, visits, etc…) to ensure that participant and staffing recruitment goals are met.
8. Prepare the annual income and expense budget for overnight camp and day camp, and exercise necessary controls to ensure operations remain within the approved budget.
9. Maintain and continue to develop alumni relationships and programming.
10. Evaluate each season to make improvements for the next, including gathering program evaluations by campers, parents and staff.

11. Support the implementation of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategies.
12. Compile and analyze accident, near miss and incident information.
13. Operate as the voice of summer programs to prospective parents, alumni and community stakeholders.
14. All other duties as assigned.

Our preferred qualifications are:
1. Bachelor’s degree required in a related field or a minimum of 5 years of residential camp management experience.
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
3. Ambitious with outstanding organizational, human relations, and resident camp programming skills.
4. Proven supervisory and administrative skills, budget development and control experience.
5. First Aid & CPR Certifications required. Lifeguard Certification preferred.
6. Valid drivers licence
