American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking 2 Members to contribute to a variety of historic preservation projects alongside Pinnacles maintenance staff.

These opportunities are intended for enthusiastic individuals who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of historic preservation. No background or previous experience in construction or historic preservation required. Training for all tools and activities will be provided by park staff professionals.

Members will work closely with park maintenance and trails under the Buildings, Utilities, and Grounds crew. Members will work in support of building maintenance and trail projects to preserve historic sites and structures throughout the national park. Projects will include the repair and restoration of the North Chalone vault toilet, including mortar work, stone stack work, reframing a new roof and restoring historic shingles; siding repair at Bear Valley School; and work on park historic trails, including stonework of trail walls. Members will participate in nearly every aspect of maintenance operations, including but not limited to general operations, painting, carpentry, masonry, and welding. Leadership will be provided by skilled NPS staff.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Required Skills:

- Must be US Citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts
- Willing to represent ACE and partner organization in a professional manner
- Ability to be both self-directed and be a positive contributing member of a group
- A valid driver's license with insurable driving record
- Willing to undergo and pass required criminal history checks
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Preferred Skills:

- Pursuing a minimum of a high school diploma and/or have experience in areas such as construction and power tools
- Knowledge of one or more trade practices
- Familiarity with construction and craftsmanship
- Basic familiarity with factors such as deterioration of buildings and structures
- Ability to use and care for common hand tools and power tools
- Deep interest in preserving history
- Career interest in building trade skills and/or historic preservation
- Comfortable working outside
