Overview

Expedition Leaders: Earn $8500 to $9250 for the Summer- (Per Diem Rates 171-185- Approximately 50- Paid days between June and August) Modest Housing and Board for Summer. Fall and Spring work available.

Expeditions can be between 3 and 20 Days in length. Short Courses available also.

Backpack, Climb, Paddle, Team Build, Conservation Trail Work….Helping young people (Teens to 21 ) find their best qualities and develop a positive and capable sense of self. We work with youth referred through the social service network in Connecticut. It is a “challenge by choice,” positive youth development program for young people that may otherwise never have the opportunity to have these experiences.

The work is challenging and rewarding. Bring your playfulness and grit. You earn a lot more then money doing this job. You will change lives including your own.

Qualifications:

Technical outdoors skills, backcountry medicine (WFR or WFA), group facilitation skills, sound judgement, team attitude, optimism that change is possible, a hopeful supportive spirit, creativity, a caring heart for young people-who may be struggling, the ability to role-model resilience in the mist of challenging circumstances, the ability to find the best in others and to help them see it for themselves, a desire to be "on the trail" leading for extended periods of time.

See Qualifications: We provide paid training. It helps to have experience in outdoor education and leadership....however, if you are resilient and hungry to learn from experience and show sound judgement, we will find a great spot for you to learn grow and contribute.

About State of CT Wilderness School

The Wilderness School provides intensive experiential programs to Connecticut youth ages thirteen to 21 and to other children and youth with special needs. Additionally, Wilderness School provides leadership, team building, wellness trainings and special interventions for agency staff teams. The program is supported by the State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF). We are currently in our forty-ninth year of operations.
